2010  NAFL  UPDATE

NAFL Announces New Start Date for the 2011 Season

Written by Christopher White

NAFL Announces New Season Start Date

The NAFL has announced a change in the season start time for the 2011 season effective immediately. The 2011 regular season will start June 4th 2011 and end on August 13th 2011. The 1st round of playoffs will start August 20th and end with the 5th round on September 17th 2011. The National Championship/All-Star Weekend will now be held on October 8th 2011 and the 2nd week of October every year there after.

The NAFL believes this will be a positive financial impact on teams. With the NFL, College and High School Football in full swing during our current schedule, this will give football fans the opportunity to enjoy football year round with our new schedule.

This schedule change also gives the NAFL the opportunity to invite teams to join our league that play in the spring and summer leagues. We will continue to raise the bar on the quality of football teams we bring into the league while we maintain the highest level of competition that we already offer.

There are over 1100 teams in Minor League football. It is, and will continue to be, a privilege to play in the NAFL. We have tightened our guidelines for current teams and teams we will be inviting to play with us for the 2011 season and beyond.

As we continue to build our foundation and restore the credibility of the league, it now gives us the opportunity to provide everyone involved a better experience to be a part of a great organization.

Our goal from day one has always been to provide teams, players’, coaches and referees the best tools, resources and revenue streams that are needed to run a successful team. We feel this is one of the many steps we are taking in the right direction to reach this goal.

2010 brings many changes.  The PA Division of the NAFL no longer exists as we knew it for so many years.  With the change in ownership of the league,  new franchises were brought in as well as existing franchised eliminated.  The new ownership has committed to building on what the former regime has started.  The development of the NAFL over the past ten years has exceeded all other minor football leagues.  The goals of the league coincide with the goals of the organization, to parallel that of minor league hockey and baseball.

The 2010 schedule consists of many changes, including several franchises that have never played the Lightning and a old division foe returns.  The Pittsburgh Colts, one of the most storied minor league franchises in the country, will come to Lancaster on Sept. 11th.  The last time the Lightning faced the Colts in Lancaster was in 2003, with the Colts prevailing in a very good defensive game, 6-0.
